Laconia, NH - The Laconia Leafs announced today that forward Matt DelGiudice has committed to play his college hockey for the UNE Nor’easters beginning in the fall of 2010. UNE competes in the competitive ECAC East.
DelGiudice, an Oakland, Maine native is heading home.
"After playing very well last fall, he gained all kinds of confidence this season," said Leafs coach-general manager Will Fay. "He has deceptive speed and a powerful stride. He doesn't always look like he's skating very fast, but he always seems to get past everyone and he's not at all afraid to get in the corners and go to the net. We are extremely excited for him to go to such a good program and be able to play near his family” Fay added. “He had a strong PG year at Bridgton Academy, and the year of JRs in Laconia added to his already strong character and work ethic. As one of our leaders, I think he is a great example of a Laconia Leaf, and I am confident that he will be a solid addition to coach Brad Holt’s team” Fay mentioned.
"I really enjoyed watching the type of game UNE plays, they are very tough and gritty which I think will fit well with my style of play” DelGiudice said. "I have had an interest in UNE ever since I decided I wanted to pursue something in the medical field" Matt added. "It also makes things even more special to know that both of my parents graduated from there." "The competition is very good in the ECAC East, and this is the league I have been working to play in for two years" DelGiudice continued. "I would like thank my coaches and my parents, without whom none of this would be possible, and also to thank everyone involved for giving me the opportunity to pursue my dream of play college hockey” DelGiudice said.
DelGiudice is one of over 120 players on a growing list of 2010 college commitments for the Leafs.
